Chipata Municipal Council is negotiating with local leaders to give them land for a new burial site.
Town Clerk Davies Musenge told Breeze News that plans are underway to have traditional burial sites be used for public service.
Mr. Musenge says that Soweto and Kagunda in Chief Chinyaku’s area are some of the areas where burial sites have been earmarked for public use.
He says that this is being done while waiting for ZEMA, the Zambia Environmental Management Agency to come and inspect the new burial site that has been proposed.
Mr. Musenge says it is a by law that once a new burial site or new land has been earmarked for development, ZEMA is supposed to be notified for approval.
He says Chipata Municipal Council has already submitted papers to ZEMA in Lusaka to inspect the new burial site.
