Chipata Municipal Council is investigating an incident where its officers who were closing bars operating beyond stipulated time last Friday had to run for their lives after some bar owner at Kapata Market turned violent.
Town Clerk, Ekan Chigangu confirmed that he had received a report that some bar owners become unruly and wanted to beat the officers.
Mr. Chigangu also says that the local authority wants to engage a named political party, which seems to be interfering in its operations especially when it comes to enforcing by-laws.
And Mr. Chigangu has warned that the council will withdraw trading license from bar operators that do not stick to the stipulated time.
He says that it is important for bar owners and political parties to understand that the council has an obligation to enforce by-laws.
