Chipata Municipal Council has removed Malawian traders, who were selling their merchandise along Kalindawalo road near Saturday market.
Chipata Municipal Council, Town Clerk, Davies Musenge confirmed this to Breeze News.
Mr. Musenge says the exercise was conducted by council police officers yesterday following complaints by other traders at the market that the Malawian traders have taken over space in the market and are constructing permanent stalls.
Mr. Musenge says the council wants the Malawian traders to comply with the law by obtaining trading permits from the Immigration Department to allow them trade for a specific period of time.
He says the traders were only removed from the place and not arrested because only officers from the Zambia police and Immigration Department are mandated to arrest foreigners.
