Chipata Municipal Council says it is still consulting stakeholders on the issue of allocating land for a new graveyard.
This follows concerns by some Chipata residents over burial space that has run out at St. Anne’s cemetery.
Ms. Kaonga explained that plans are underway to open a new burial site for Chipata but could not disclose which land has been identified.
She however, refuted reports that the new graveyard will be located on a piece of land belonging to ZAWA, the Zambia Wildlife Authority, opposite Munga Basic School.
Ms. Kaonga says that the local authority is in the process of legalising land where the new graveyard will be located.
