A contractor building a shopping mall in Chipata’s central business area has been ordered to stop immediately.
Chipata Town Clerk, Davis Musenge has told Breeze News today that the council has stopped the construction of a multi-million Kwacha shopping mall because the local authority is not conversant with the building plans submitted.
Mr. Musenge says the local authority cannot allow any construction to go ahead if they are not conversant with the plans.
He further revealed that the company behind the construction of the shopping mall has not submitted a clearance certificate from ZEMA, the Zambia Environmental Management Agency.
Mr. Musenga says that the construction of the shopping mall will only resume after the council scrutinises the project plans and is given the ZEMA clearance certificate.
And Climax Car Centre Limited Managing Director, Mohamed Ismail has also confirmed the development stating that the local authority had stopped the construction works.
He says that the council is demanding that the owner builds a two storey shopping mall.
Mr. Ismail says it is sad that the local authority had stopped the construction works of a shopping mall, which would have created a lot of jobs after its completion.
