Chipata Municipal Council says that it will not bow down to pressure not to develop farm D116 in Chief Kapatamoyo’s area.
This follows demands from former Msandile Ward Councillor, Hanille Jere that Chipata Mayor, Jealous Phiri should resign from his position for abusing his powers and grabbing land.
Mr. Phiri told Breeze News that he will not resign from his position like what Ms. Jere did to resign from her position as councillor because he is not a coward.
He says that he is determined to seeing that Farm D116 is turned into an industrial area because the land now belongs to the state.
Mr. Phiri expressed shock that Ms. Jere and other people were trying to block the local authority from developing the area, when Paramount Chief Mpezeni and Chief Kapatamoyo already gave consent.
He says that Farm D116 is part of the 10 kilometres land, which traditional leaders gave the local authority for extension of township boundaries.
Mr. Phiri added that the Commissioner of Lands has also given the council permission to develop the area.
Chipata Municipal Council will not be forced to abandon developmental plans on Farm D 116.
