Chipata residents were this morning treated to a rare natural phenomenon of the partial eclipse of the sun, which covered most of Southern Africa.
The residents, who were taken by surprise, thronged the streets in town to observe as the sun and moon met.
The eclipse of the sun took more than an hour and people who did not have the right glasses for watching the eclipse resorted to using biscuits and sweet wrappers.
However, experts advised that only a gadget used by welders when welding was safe enough to protect the eyes from being damaged.
The Eclipse of the sun is an occasion when the sun looks like it is completely or partially covered with a dark circle because the moon is between the sun and the Earth
Meanwhile this is what some residents said about their rare moment of witnessing the eclipse.
