Government through DMMU, Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit has given 400 by 50kg bags of maize to Chipata Central Constituency to cushion hunger situation affecting the people.
Musanga Ward Councillor Alick Banda told Breeze News in an interview that the four wards in Chipata Central Constituency have been given 100 by 50kg bags of maize each.
Mr. Banda says the maize, which the wards have been given is under Food for Work programme, adding that people will only access this maize after working for it.
He says the maize is in the hands of the ward development committees who will distribute to deserving recipients.
Mr. Banda says papers to kick start the exercise have been submitted to Chipata Municipal Council for further consideration.
He says that the local authority will determine what kind of work people will do before they get their share.
