City status for Chipata coming soon

Government says that the issue of upgrading Chipata into a city is receiving due attention.
Speaking to Breeze News, Local Government Minister, Steven Kampyongo says that stakeholders should not think that government is dragging its feet on the matter.
Mr Kampyongo says that people need to understand that there is a long process that is involved before a municipality can be upgraded to a city.
He explained that Chipata is not the only municipality that is on government’s agenda to be upgraded into a city.
Mr Kampyongo explained that there are four other towns including Slowezi and Kasama, which government needs to give city status.
During this year’s Nc’wala ceremony President Edgar Lungu indicated that he had directed Mr Kampyongo to address the matter.
