Civil servants in Eastern Province have started receiving new salaries.
A check by Breeze News yesterday found workers withdrawing the revised salaries from ATMs, Automated Teller Machines.
The excited workers expressed happiness with the increment, which has seen some workers getting more than half the increment of their previous wage.
Last week, Provincial Minister, Malozo Sichone indicated that civil servants getting about one thousand nine hundred Kwacha would now get about 3,500 Kwacha while those getting 2,500 Kwacha would be getting about 5,000 Kwacha.
Mr. Sichone dismissed concerns that government would not be able to support the salaries, which have been described as too high.
He explained that government would use money saved from the removal of fuel subsidies to support salaries and fund other developmental projects.
