Civil Society Organisations unhappy at President Michael Sata’s directive on draft constitution.

Civil Society Organisations, CSOs in Eastern Province are unhappy with President Michael Sata’s directive to government officials to ignore those talking about the draft constitution.

The CSOs have asked the President to reverse the directive stating that the draft constitution is an important matter.

Speaking on behalf of the CSOs at a Press briefing, Caritas Chipata Good Governance Coordinator, John Mthaziko Zulu says it is sad that the Head of State does not find kind words when addressing issues regarding the constitution.

Mr. Zulu observed that when the Patriotic Front PF Party was in opposition, they used to criticise the current constitution.

He has called upon Zambians to continue demanding for the release of the final copy of the draft constitution.

Mr. Zulu stated that CSOs are not antagonising the PF government but only reminding them of the promise made to the people to give them a people driven constitution.

Among the CSOs present at the press briefing were Caritas Chipata, FODEP, AVAP, CSPR, Youth Development Foundation, Zambia National Women’s Lobby, Chipangali Women’s Development Foundation, East Rights Media Agency, National Youth Constitutional Assembly, YWCA and Eastern Province NGO Forum.
