Close to 6000 people on ART in Eastern Province

About 5, 930 people are enrolled on ART, Anti- Retroviral Therapy in Eastern Province.
Provincial Medical Officer, Abel Kabalo however, says the Province has seen a reduction of one per cent of people enrolled on ART from 10.3 per cent in 2014 to 9.3 per cent last year.
Dr. Kabalo was speaking during the commissioning of Katambo Health Post in Luangeni Constituency.
Dr. Kabalo attributed the reduction in the number of clients, to support that the province has received from the governments of America, Sweden and Zambia.
He says that the Sweden government has pumped in 2.4 million United States dollars for HIV and AIDS related programmes, which started last year and will run up to March this year.
Dr. Kabalo added that the Ministry of Health has been given 19 million United States dollars by the American government for HIV and AIDS related programmes to run up to 2017.
He added that 89 per cent of the budget allocated to the province last year has been utilized for various programmes including those related to HIV and AIDS.
