Contractors working on most roads in Eastern Province will only resume their operations in March.
Road Development Agency, RDA Spokesperson, Loyce Saili confirmed this to Breeze News.
Ms. Saili says this is because it is a requirement in the road contracts when signing that contractors should be going on industrial break every rain season.
She was responding to complaints raised by motorists using the Chadiza- Chipata road that the road is in a poor state and that the contractor is not on site.
Ms. Saili explained that it is difficult for contractors to do quality works when it is raining.
She also refuted claims that lack of funding has led to most contractors stopping the road works in the province.
The RDA Spokesperson says funds are ready for the contractors to continue working on the Chipata-Chadiza, Chipata-Vubwi, Umodzi Highway and other township roads in the province in March.
