The Cotton Association of Zambia CAZ has in the 2014/2015 farming season had to deal with over 50 cases relating to ginners buying from farmers sponsored by other ginners.
In an interview with Breeze News, Cotton Inspector, Nyambe Kwalombota said that this was the biggest challenge that had faced the cotton industry in the Eastern region.
Mr. Kwalombota, however, said that over eighty per cent of the issues raised were dealt with.
He expressed hope that in the coming farming seasons, there will be less issues to do with ginners buying from farmers that they did not sponsor.
Mr. Kwalombota further added that the 2014/2015 season was one of most challenging, owing to the poor weather patterns experienced.
He says that most farmers produced limited volumes of cotton due to erratic rainfall, and that as a result, most ginners have had challenges recovering the loans.
Mr. Kwalombota says that there has been a lot of communication especially with the ginners, to try and avoid encountering the same challenges faced during the 2015/2016 farming season.
Cotton Association of Zambia records over 50 cases of ginners engaging in illegal trade.
