Council officers forced to buy uniforms

Chipata City Council has refuted claims that council police officers are buying uniforms using their own money.

Town Clerk Davies Musenge says it is the mandate of the council to take care of council police officers by giving them job requirements such as uniforms.

He says some council police officers were buying their ceremonial white shirts out of their initiative adding that it was not that the local authority failed to buy those uniforms.

Mr. Musenge says this year Chipata City Council has prepared a budget to procure uniforms for council police officers adding that the local authority is liaising with Lusaka City Council to help in the procurement of the huts which will bear the budge of Chipata City.

He says Chipata City Council recently recruited council police officers and all the workers have been given uniforms.

Mr. Musenge says the only challenge is that Chipata City Council has delayed to purchase boots for the old police officers who were not among the recruits.

Meanwhile Mr. Musenge revealed that Chipata City Council will soon take its officers for refresher courses to equip them with new skills on how to manage the city.

Mr. Musenge says the training, which will be conducted by Zambia Police will be to impart skills on how to handle township patrols and public nuisance in the city.
