Council workers in Chipata down tools due to three months unpaid salaries.

Council workers in all markets in Chipata have downed tools for the second time this year, due to non-payment of salaries for the past three months.
A check by Breeze News in some of the markets found that some marketeers have resorted to urinating in containers because the toilets are dirty.
The situation has angered some marketeers who have questioned why the council workers are not being paid despite them paying levies.
And when contacted for comment, Chipata Municipal Council Public Relations Officer, Taonga Kaonga says that the council started the payment process yesterday.
Ms. Kaonga says that the hold back is that the council is still consulting with the market advisory committee to establish how much is owed.
She has appealed for calm during the process, stating that rioting will not help the situation.
