CSPR calls for consistency in policies

President Edgar Lungu has been advised to be consistent with policies if the country’s economy is to get back on track.
Civil Society for Poverty Reduction CSPR says President Lungu’s decision to reverse the increment in electricity tariffs shows lack of consistence.
Participation and Advocacy Programme Officer, Maxson Nkhoma says that the Head of State last year announced austerity measures that included increase in electricity tariffs to assist in putting back on track the country’s economy whose inflation now stands at 21 per cent.
Mr. Nkhoma observed that if government is firm in implementing the austerity measures, inflation would have been reducing instead of increasing.
He says that both foreign and local investors will only be able to invest in Zambia if they are sure that they will make profit.
Mr. Nkhoma however, commended Mr. Lungu for responding to the concerns over the high electricity tariffs from Zambians.
Mr. Nkhoma says that the president should next time consult widely before making a decision, which he will turn back on.
And Mr. Nkhoma has commended government for stabilising the Kwacha, which has been trading between 10 and 11 Kwacha against the United States dollar for almost three weeks.
