Defiled girl in Lundazi says she did not report the case because she loved him

A 21 year old man of William compound in Lundazi, has been committed to the Chipata High Court for sentencing after being found guilty of defiling a minor by the Lundazi Magistrate Court.
Appearing before Magistrate Keagan Litiya was Timothy Phiri unemployed of Malomo village in Chief Magodi’s area in Lundazi District.
Facts before the court were that between 26th and 27th September, Timothy Phiri had canal knowledge of a juvenile aged 15, contrarily to the laws of Zambia.
And the victim, a grade eight pupil of Lundazi Basic School testified before court on how Phiri used to have sex with her on separate intervals.
When asked by court why she never reported the matter to anyone, she said she was afraid as she loved Phiri.
And when passing judgment, Magistrate Litiya stated that since Timothy was the first offender and admitted the charge, the court had no jurisdiction to pass judgment as the offence committed was a serious one and committed him to the high court accordingly.
