Only 16 per cent of construction works have so far been done on the Chipata -Vubwi road project.
Assistant Project Manager for China Jiangxi Cooperation, Guan Xiaocheng says government’s delay in releasing the funds has made the road works to stall.
Breeze FM Staffer, Peter Frank Banda reports that Mr Guan says that the two years project has now been extended due to poor funding and that this has led to the contract sum to go up.
He says that his company last received money amounting to 1.5 million Kwacha in March this year.
He says that initially, the project was to gobble about 500 million Kwacha but the extension means that it has now gone up to more than 600 million Kwacha.
Mr Guan says due to lack of funds, the company only has a quarter of employees working from the over 450 skilled and non-skilled employees.
He says that this is worrying to the economy of the district as most of the employees are local people.
Mr Guan has promised to finish the works by November 2016 if government is going to fulfil its promise to release the funds soon.
