Works on rural roads have delayed to start in Eastern Province, due to delay by government to fund the projects.
And Provincial Permanent Secretary, Chanda Kasolo, told Breeze News that government will soon release the money to the province.
He attributed the delay to release the money to a decision by government to merge RRU, the Rural Roads Unit with the Zambia National Service.
Mr. Kasolo told Breeze News that the works on the rural roads are expected to start as soon as all the paper work on the partnership between ZNS and RRU is concluded.
Mr. Kasolo says that he is confident that ZNS are going to do a great job on the rural roads and will finish working on the roads before the onset of the rains.
The RRU was allocated a budget of 18 million Kwacha in the 2015 National Budget to work on 138 kilometers of rural roads and the works were expected to start in June this year.
Delayed funding from government affects works of rehabilitating rural roads.
