The dissolution of market committees by Chipata City Council has sparked confusion.
Dilika Ward Councilor Samuel Phiri says the dissolution of market committees was not done according to guidelines.
Mr. Phiri told Breeze News that as a chairperson of all market committees in his ward, he was supposed to be informed by Chipata City Council about the decision to dissolve the market committees.
He added that as far as he was concerned, the committee at Saturday Market has remained with one year to serve.
But Chipata City Council has maintained that all market committees remain dissolved until further notice.
Speaking to the media, Council spokesperson Tawonga Kaonga says all market affairs will now be handled by the local authority.
