The Movement for Multi-Party Democracy MMD in Eastern Province has maintained that the national convention slated for May 22 will go ahead despite resistance from their leader Nevers Mumba.
Provincial Spokesperson, Zephaniah Kaleya says that the party needs to choose a new leader if the MMD is to survive beyond the August 11 general elections.
Speaking to Breeze News, Mr. Kaleya described Dr. Mumba’s arguments that the party can only hold a convention next year as baseless.
He says that according to the party constitution, MMD is supposed to hold the convention this month and that no amount of resistance will stop this from happening.
And Mr. Keleya says that the reconciliation between Dr. Mumba and former president Rupiah Banda should not be taken seriously.
He says that this is because Dr. Mumba wants to use the former head of state to propagate his desire of holding on to the party presidency.
