Eastern Province has recorded the first position of the pass rate in last year’s grade twelve results beating other nine provinces in the country.
Provincial Education Officer, Thomas Mwanza who confirmed this says that the province has recorded the first position with a percentage of 64.5.
Mr. Mwanza says that out of 8, 619 candidates who sat for their examination last year, 5,559 obtained full certificates with 2014 being females while 3,545 are males.
Two thousand nine hundred and seventy-four obtained GCE certificate with 1,175 being females while 1,799 are males.
Mr. Mwanza says that 86 candidates have completely failed while 154 were absent.
Mr. Mwanza expressed happiness on the results adding that despite being the first position in the country, the percentage for the province has also gone up from last year’s 62.88.
The PEO has attributed the high pass rate to good supervision on schools by the DEBS, District Education Board Secretaries and commitment by the teachers.
Mr. Mwanza however says that the Province can still do better because it did not reach the planned target for 2012, which was at 70 percent.
