Eastern Province receives 550 metric tonnes of relief maize

Eastern Province has received 550 metric tonnes of relief maize to be distributed to areas where people have been affected by hunger.
Eastern Province Permanent Secretary, Chanda Kasolo, says that this is in addition to 3,200 metric tonnes of maize that the province had earlier received.
Mr. Kasolo says his office had to apply for additional relief maize because of the demand from the affected people.
He says that each district will be given 50 metric tonnes of relief maize to be distributed to the affected people.
Mr. Kasolo added that farmers who sold their maize to FRA, the Food Reserve Agency will be paid on time so that they plan well for the next farming season.
