Eastern Province records 1, 839 inmates by Monday morning

The prisons department in Eastern Province has recorded a total number of 1, 839 inmates by 06:00 this morning.
Eastern Province Deputy Regional Commander, Senior Superintendent Njavwani Nalungwe reported this when Justice William Mweemba opened the High court session in Chipata this morning.
Senior Superintendent Nalungwe says that Chipata’s Namuseche Prisons had the highest number of 807 inmates followed by Petauke with 316 inmates.
Katete had 236 while Lundazi had 237 prisoners. She said Nyimba Prison opened with 243 inmates.
And Senior Superintendent Nalungwe says the Prisons Department has a challenge of lack of uniforms for inmates, which is not safe for security because it is difficult to identify the prisoners.
He however, says that the Prisons Department in the region has enough food and is managing to feed the inmates three times a day.
Senior Superintendent Nalungwe says Namuseche Prisons is the only one delaying to prepare meals because they are using manual pots since the electric pots were destroyed by fire in July.
And Justice Mweemba says he will visit Namuseche Prisons later this month.
