Eastern Province to face water problem.

The poor rainfall experienced this year is likely to affect water supply by Eastern Water and Sewerage Company in some parts of Eastern Province.
This is coupled with the countrywide massive load shedding by ZESCO due to reduced water levels at Kariba Dam.
Eastern Water and Sewerage Company Managing Director Lighton Kanowa confirmed this to journalists.
Mr. Kanowa explained that since the water utility company relies on power supply from ZESCO to pump water, they may also be affected by the massive load shedding.
He says that hours of supply will be reduced and that areas with poor supply would be the most affected.
Mr. Kanowa added that the poor rainfall pattern during the 2014/2015 rain season will also affect water levels at the dams.
He mentioned Lundazi whose dam has just enough water supply when there are normal rains.
Mr. Kanowa, however says that consultation will be done to see how best to mitigate the situation.
During the weekend, Deputy Minister for Energy and Water Development Charles Zulu warned of increased load shedding because electricity generation will reduce from 2, 200 to 1,800 megawatts.
