Eastern PS calls for prosecution of contractors performing shoddy works

Government says contractors who perform shoddy road works should be sued.
Eastern Province Permanent Secretary, Chanda Kasolo says it is disgusting that contractors who are given contracts are failing to do proper road works.
He was speaking this morning on ZNBC, Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation‘s Radio Two programme dubbed ‘Government Forum monitored by Breeze News.
Mr Kasolo says Raubex and Sable Construction companies failed to do proper work on Chipata-Lundazi and Chipata-Mfuwe roads.
The permanent secretary says Sable had done poor work on the Chipata-Mfuwe road, stating that the road which is supposed to take motorists 40 minutes to drive between Mfuwe and Chipata was taking an hour.
And Mr Kasolo says that he is not happy with the supply of water by Eastern Water and Sewerage Company in Chipata.
He stated that the company needs to upgrade its infrastructure because some pipes made of asbestos being used to supply water can cause cancer to consumers.
He however, commended the Germany government for rendering support towards the improvement of water to the utility company.
Meanwhile, Mr Kasolo says Chipata-Mchinji railway line is no longer a white elephant because it has started operating.
