Eastern Water acting MD Basil Mweene in trouble for demeaning the president.

Police in Chipata have recorded a warn and caution statement from acting managing director at Eastern Water and Sewerage Company Basil Mweene for demeaning and issuing disparaging remarks against the Head of State and other senior Government officials in public.
Chipata District Police Officer Commanding Ronald Zambo has confirmed stating that Mr Mweene was locked up on Friday night and was released on Saturday around 12:00 hours.
Mr. Zambo says that Mr Mweene is expected to visit the police station on Monday for further investigations because none of the complaints showed up as at 12:00 hours on Saturday.
Mr Zambo said the incident happened at Protea Hotel.
According to the information, Mr Mweene started attacking information Minister Chishimba Kambwili before deeming President Edgar Lungu.
He went further to harass Zambia Cooperative Federation ZCF Director General James Chirwa, Eastern Province Permanent Secretary Chanda Kasolo, a Mr Suzyo and others who were present.
Meanwhile Eastern Province Permanent Secretary Chanda Kasolo has described the incident as most unfortunate.
Speaking to Breeze News, Mr. Kasolo indicated that Mr. Mweene by venture of working for Eastern Water and Sewerage Company is a semi civil servant who is not supposed to take part in partisan politics.
He indicated that the provincial administration will allow the police to do their investigations on the matter because the office of the president is supposed to be respected regardless of which political party the head of state represents.
Mr. Kasolo however, pointed out that he expects the Board of Directors at Eastern Water and Sewerage Company to address the matter.
He stated that if no administrative action is taken against Mr Mweene, he will be forced to intervene as head of administration in the province.
