ECZ starts distributing ballot papers

The Electoral Commission of Zambia, ECZ says seven trucks ferrying ballot papers and other non-security election materials were yesterday dispatched to Luapula, Muchinga, Western and North Western Provinces.

The commission says that the dispatch of the ballot papers and election materials was within its schedule for deployment of poll staff and materials by Zambia Air Force, ZAF, to 17 polling stations, which commences tomorrow August 6th.

This is according to a press statement which was also read at a media briefing in Lusaka this morning.

Mr. Akufuna says the commission regrets that it did not adequately communicate the urgency of the dispatch to the stakeholders and apologized for the lapse in communication.

He assured the nation and all stakeholders that political party representatives will witness the delivery of the materials in the respective districts.

Mr. Akufuna says that the airlifting of the papers to areas which are not accessible by road will be done by August 10th.

He also advised stakeholders that National Voters registers will be available at ECZ headquarters by 15 hours today.

Mr. Akufuna says the commission yesterday held a meeting with heads of public media houses and political party representatives, where it was agreed that media houses must report professionally.

He explained that during the meeting, it was agreed that there should be fair and balanced coverage of all political parties.
