Tobacco Board of Zambia TBZ has charged that EFAZ, Eastern Fodya Association of Zambia should stop misleading farmers on what type of tobacco to grow in the 2016-2017 farming season.
Chief Executive Officer, Samson Muyembe says that it is wrong for EFAZ to advise farmers to grow burley tobacco because the crop currently has no market.
Speaking to Breeze News this morning, Mr. Muyembe further explained that farmers who will listen to EFAZ will only have themselves to blame because EFAZ does not have market for burley.
He says farmers should ignore the advice from EFAZ because the burley tobacco, which TBZ bought from farmers, is still stuck in Chipata due to lack of market.
Mr. Muyembe reiterated his advice to farmers to concentrate on growing flue cured tobacco, which he says still, has market.
He further advised farmers to avoid growing tobacco as independent growers but get contracted by merchants so that they can be guaranteed of market for their crop.
