Farmers in Chadiza district are not happy that government has maintained the floor price for maize at 75 Kwacha for a 50 kilogram bag.
The farmers say that they will lose out because farming inputs were bought at a high price due to the poor performance of the kwacha.
Misheck Mbewe told Breeze News that farmers were buying a 50 kilogram bag of fertilizer at 400 Kwacha.
Mr. Mbewe says that government should have given the farmers a good price to avoid a situation where farmers start smuggling the produce to neighbouring countries.
He has appealed to government to reconsider the floor price so that farmers do not lose out.
On Tuesday Agriculture minister, Given Lubinda announced in parliament that government would buy the produce at 75 Kwacha.
