Farmers who got fake fertilizer from Cargill Zambia 2009 Limited in Eastern Province demand for refund and compensation.

Farmers who got fake fertilizer from Cargill Zambia 2009 Limited in Eastern Province have demanded for refund and compensation.
The farmers allege that their crop has failed to grow properly and that the cotton company should meet the wasted cost.
Cotton Association of Zambia CAZ Vice Provincial Chairperson, Adrian Banda says farmers are unhappy over the decision by Cargill to consult stakeholders before they are compensated.
Mr. Banda told Breeze News that the matter does not need any further consultation because Mount Makulu Research Station had confirmed after carrying out tests that the fertilizer does not meet the required standards.
And when contacted for comment, Cargill says that it is addressing the matter through the manufacturer and supplier of the fertilizer, Sasol Nitro.
In a statement availed to Breeze News by Cargill Project Manager, Emmanuel Mbewe the company says it has shared the results of the tests conducted on the fertilizer with Sasol, which is now in the process of taking steps to contact relevant Zambian authorities and address the concerns of farmers.
Mr. Mbewe further states that Cargill remains committed to supporting the Zambian cotton farming community and will work with Sasol as it works with farmers to resolve the matter.
