Confusion marred the filing in of nomination papers for mayoral candidates at Chipata Municipal Council Chamber this morning.
This was after it was discovered that two candidates from the FDD, Forum for Democracy and Development had submitted valid certificates for nominations.
Returning Officer, Samuel Phiri could not allow the FDD candidate, Mailes Phiri Mvula to file in her nomination papers after another candidate Osward Mphande had already presented his particulars.
But FDD National Chairman, Mumamba Potfar Chungu clarified that the rightful candidate was Mrs Mvula.
Mr. Chungu stated that the party will report Osward Mpande to the police for obtaining a certificate without the concert of the National Executive Committee.
Meanwhile two out of twelve candidates have so far filed in their nomination papers for the Mayoral seat at Chipata Municipal Council.
Musa Gear Nyirenda from UPND, the United Party for National Development filed in his nomination papers around 09:20 hours while FDD candidates Mailes Phiri Mvula filed in her nomination papers around 12 hours.
Other candidates expected to file in their nomination papers are from the Democratic Assembly, MMD, Green Party, Rainbow Party, Patriotic Front and four Independent candidates.
Returning Officer, Samuel Phiri announced that Mr. Nyirenda and Mrs Mvula managed to present all the valid papers as per requirement by ECZ, the Electoral Commission of Zambia and will be informed if they are successful before the end of the day.
The MMD, Movement for Multi-Party Democracy candidate who was supposed to be first to file in his nomination papers at 09 hours when the nomination centre opened did not show up.
