MMD President Felix Mutati will maintain his position as party president despite being appointed Finance Minister in President Edgar Lungu’s government.
MMD National Secretary, Raphael Nakachinda has confirmed this to Breeze News this morning.
Mr. Nakachinda says that the MMD notes that Mr. Mutati has been appointed finance minister based on his competence to deliver and assist the country.
He says that the MMD’s structure already entails that the secretary general carries out most of the administrative duties, which in this case will not be affected by Mr. Mutati’s appointment.
Mr. Nakachinda says that the MMD is now working out on the best ways of ensuring that the party carries out both duties while rebuilding.
President Lungu yesterday appointed the former Lunte MP, Member of Parliament and subsequently appointed him Finance Minister taking over from Alexander Chikwanda.
