First Lady, Esther Lungu has observed that there is a lot of stigma among people living with disabilities in the country.
Mrs. Lungu says the disabled are being segregated as if they are not human beings.
She says that the disabled have equal rights with able bodied people and have to be treated with respect because they are able to contribute positively to the development of the country.
Mrs. Lungu was speaking in Chipata this morning when she met senior government officials and executive members of the Patriotic Front PF party.
And Mrs. Lungu says that she has a great passion for women because they have a lot of responsibilities.
She says she will ensure that women are empowered to support their families and urged men to support women so that development can be achieved in the province.
Mrs. Lungu has directed the Ministry of Gender to ensure that it explains its duties to the women because most women in rural areas do not know where to report when they are aggrieved.
And the first lady has noted with concern, the increasing number of vulnerable children in the province.
She attributed the increase in the number of vulnerable children to HIV and AIDS that has robbed most parents in most Zambian families.
The first lady promised to table the issues that are affecting the vulnerable children with the president so that they are addressed.
