First lady, Esther Lungu reveals financial challenges in conducting community work

First lady, Esther Lungu has revealed financial challenges, which first ladies in Zambia face to implement their programmes.
Mrs Lungu says that first ladies do not receive a salary and have to lobby for support in order to carry community work.
Speaking on a live radio programme on Breeze FM today, the first lady further explained that programmes implemented by first ladies normally depend on well-wishers.
And Ms. Lungu has observed from her tour that child marriages and sexual abuse still remain a challenge in Eastern Province.
She condemned the trend and further appealed to women in Eastern Province to promote education in the fight against HIV and AIDS.
Ms. Lungu observed that the family unit needs to be preserved if the country is to be well developed.
Meanwhile the first lady commended women in Eastern Province for forming clubs, stating that this was the only way they would get support from government.
The First Lady has been in the Province for the last two weeks to familiarize herself with the needs of the Zambian people on behalf of President Edgar Lungu.
She is expected to travel to Muchinga Province where she is supposed to continue with her tour.
