The Pharmaceutical Regulatory Authority, PRA has closed five illegal drug stores and cosmetic business centres in Chipata.
Pharmaceutical Inspector, Don Sandi Mwangana confirmed this to Breeze News.
Mr. Mwangana says that owners of the five drug stores and cosmetic business centres have been summoned by the Magistrate court for carrying out pharmaceutical business without being registered and operating a pharmacy without registration, which is contrary to the laws of Zambia.
He says that this was after PRA, conducted an inspection of the business centres in December last year.
Mr. Mwangana has appealed to the general public to desist from buying medicines from illegal drug stores as doing so poses danger to their health.
He says the unregistered drug stores do not meet the standard requirements for selling medicines.
Mr. Mwangana also warned people engaging in illegal business that the law will visit them.
