Five people appear in the Lundazi Magistrate Court for trafficking in marijuana.

Five people including a female have appeared in the Lundazi Magistrate Court for trafficking in psychotropic substance commonly known as marijuana weighing 2,546 kilograms.

Appearing before Magistrate Milton Nyirenda were Elias Banda 39 of Munkwata village in Chief Mwase Nthembwe’s area, Daphiles Tembo 52, a peasant farmer and Hermit Chungu 68 a businessman of Zgobeta village in Chief Kapichila.

Others are Christopher Sichone 31 of John Laing in Lusaka district and Dingiswayo Mwale 42, a driver of Roman Catholic in Lundazi district.

Particulars of the offence are that the five accused persons on Monday 9th May, 2016 in Lundazi district, jointly and whilst acting together trafficked in marijuana weighing 2,546 kilograms contrary to the laws of Zambia.

Christopher Sichone, Dingiswayo Mwale, Daphless Tembo and Hermit Chungu denied the charge read before them while Elias Banda readily admitted to the charge.

And Magistrate Nyirenda has adjourned the matter to Monday 16th May, 2016 for setting trial dates.

The five accused are remanded in custody.
