About 90 thousand Kwacha is being owed to casual workers, who worked for RRU, the Rural Roads Unit in Chipata.
This prompted the former RRU workers to seek audience with Eastern Province Permanent Secretary, Chanda Kasolo at his office yesterday.
The former workers who refused to be named told Breeze News that they have not been paid their salaries since January this year.
And when contacted for a comment, Mr. Kasolo acknowledged receiving a complaint from the group on the matter but promised to meet them again next week.
Mr. Kasolo however, said that he cannot promise a day when the casual workers will be paid because he needs to verify with the RRU on the actual amount being owed and the number of people who worked during that period.
Last month, Mr. Kasolo indicated that the RRU had not received funding from the 2015 budgetary allocation because of the transfer of the departmental to ZNS, the Zambia National Service.
Former casual workers at Rural Roads Unit demand eight months unpaid salaries.
