Forum for Democracy and Development FDD in Lundazi district has called for peaceful campaigns ahead of the Kajilime local government by-elections.
District Chairperson, Bakili Zulu says that political parties should co-exist and not engage in political violence especially during campaigns.
Mr. Zulu confirmed that FDD will take part in the by-election and that a candidate has already been identified.
The district chairperson says that he is optimistic that FDD will carry the day as their candidate is popular among the local people.
Meanwhile confusion is brewing in MMD, Movement for Multi-Party Democracy over the adoption of a candidate to contest the Kajilime seat.
MMD District Vice Chairperson, Dawood Mbeba says MMD in Kajilime should support the FDD candidate to avoid losses witnessed in other by-elections.
Mr. Mbeba says that opposition political parties need to avoid losing any other by-election because they might completely lose popularity among voters.
The Electoral Commission of Zambia ECZ has set April 23 as the date for the Kajilime Local Government by- election.
The Kajilime ward seat fell vacant following the conviction of area councillor Austine Musimuko to 9 months imprisonment with hard labour for criminal trespass.
And more by-elections are looming after three councillors from MMD and UPND in Vubwi district resigned yesterday to join PF.
These are Chisiya Ward councillor, Bonex Mushanga and Chimphanje Ward councillor, Thomas Mwale. UPND, Mbozi ward councillor, Taulino Sakala also ditched his party.
