Four chiefdoms in Mambwe district given relief maize.

About four Chiefdoms which have been affected by hunger in Mambwe district have been assisted with relief food.
Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit DMMU, Eastern Province Co-coordinator, Ingribet Bondo told Breeze News that a total of 200 metric tonnes of relief maize have been distributed to Chiefs Jumbe, Kakumbi, Malama and Nsefu.
Mr. Bondo says that the relief maize was being distributed in phases from March up to September this year.
Mr. Bondo however, says that he has received reports that the 200 metric tonnes of maize has already finished and the DMMU has requested for an extra 150 metric tonnes of maize to be distributed to the areas soon.
He says that Mambwe district is always hit by hunger because most people stay in the valley area, which is mostly affected by floods.
Mr. Bondo mentioned other Chiefdoms in Nyimba and Petauke district that were hit by hunger this year as Mwape, Nyamphande and Nyalugwe. The department managed to distribute 100 metric tonnes of maize.
