The Drug Enforcement Commission in Eastern Province has arrested a peasant farmer of Lundazi District for being in possession of counterfeit notes. And in Mambwe District, the commission has arrested three farmers for trafficking in cannabis. This is contained in a press statement availed to Breeze News by DEC Public Relations Officer, Theresa Katongo. Ms. Katongo says James Chirwa, 37, a Peasant farmer of Ndulile village in Lundazi District has been arrested for being in possession of 200 Kwacha counterfeit notes in 50 Kwacha bills. She says the suspect was arrested at a named market in Lundazi District as he was about to transact. And in Mambwe the DEC arrested Wilton Ngoma, 24, a Peasant farmer of Kapuma village, Jairos Mwale, 25, a Peasant farmer of Sinoya village and Kondwani Chirwa, 25, a Peasant farmer of Kapuma village for trafficking in loose cannabis weighing 26 kilogrammes. Meanwhile, the Commission has arrested thirty people countrywide for unlawful cultivation and trafficking in various quantities of cannabis.
