FRA buys over 78,000 bags of maize in Chadiza district

The Food Reserve Agency FRA in Chadiza district has purchased 78,291 by 50 kilogramme bags of maize in the last 3 weeks.
This is out of the targeted 108,000 by 50 kilogramme bags.
Chadiza District Agricultural Coordinator, Kabange Masenga told Breeze News that the number of bags bought is from 21 satellite depots.
Mr. Masenga says Msakanyama Depot purchased the highest number of bags followed by Chadiza Boma depot while Manje and Kapachi depots purchased less maize.
And Mr. Masenga says that there is an overwhelming response from farmers because the maize buying price is very attractive.
He says that he is confident that the 108,000 target will be met soon.
Mr. Masenga has also urged farmers especially those who supplied maize two weeks ago to be patient as government is doing everything possible to pay them.
And commenting on complaints from farmers on delays in the weighing process of maize in most depots, Mr Masenga says this is due to limited number of scales at each depot.
He says more scales have been ordered to speed up the weighing process in depots which have a large number of farmers selling maize.
