FRA buys over 890, 000 bags of maize from farmers in Eastern Province.

The Food Reserve Agency, FRA has purchased about 890, 900 by 50 kilograms bags of maize from farmers in Eastern Province.
This is out of 89,100 metric tonnes, which is 1.7 million by 50 kilogram bags of maize targeted for the province this year.
Provincial Agriculture Coordinator, Dr. Obvious Kabinda told Breeze News that the maize bought so far is valued at about 66.8 million Kwacha.
He says that this represents 45 percent of the maize bought by Friday this week.
And Dr. Kabinda says that the farmers will start getting paid next week and that the payment system will be done on first come first save basis.
He says his office has not received any complaints from the farmers about the marketing season and the farmers are being given the empty grain bags for free.
