Framers in Chipata start sharing fertilizer under FISP

Some farming cooperatives in Kamlaza area of Chipata district have defied government directive not to share 50 Kilogramme bags of fertiliser in a pack.
Speaking during a Walk The Talk Sensitisation Campaign being conducted by CSPR, Civil Society for Poverty Reduction, some farmers revealed that 4 farmers are being made to share one 50 Kilogramme bag.
This has angered the farmers who demanded to know why government has reduced the allocation at such short notice.
The angry farmers further charged that government has not been consulting them on any of the decisions made in regards to their livelihood.
And officiating, CSPR Vice Chairperson, Joyce Mwale, observed that there is need for government to act on its promises to eradicate extreme poverty.
Ms. Mwale said that promotion of transparency in the disbursement of budget funds is important as it allows the people to track the budget.
She further challenged the Ministry of Agriculture to put in place poverty mitigation measures directed towards the small scale farmers in the rural areas.
Ms. Mwale says that this will help boost the economy of the province which is agro based.
