GIZ denies having audit queries with Eastern Water and Sewerage Company.

Germany Agency for International Cooperation GIZ has denied reports that it has raised audit queries with Eastern Water and Sewerage Company over 20,000 Kwacha given to the company for a data collection project.

Speaking to Breeze News, an official from GIZ says that the organization is not aware of any abuse of the money for a data clean-up exercise.

She indicated that the agreement with the water company was confidential and did not want the name of GIZ to be dragged in baseless accusations.

The official also suspected that the accusations were not being made with best of intentions.

On Tuesday, some people engaged as data collectors by Eastern Water and Sewerage Company alleged that they had information that the funders of the project have queries on the number of people engaged to carry out the project, as well as retirement records on the amount of money spent during their training.

They threatened that they would reveal more information on the manner in which the project is being handled if they are not paid their money.

Eastern Water and Sewerage Company Managing Director, Lighton Kanowa denied any wrongdoing and referred Breeze News to GIZ for clarification on the matter.
