Mtaya Primary School Head teacher in Chadiza district Jonathan Chiyenga says that government should come up with a deliberate policy to sustain pupils’ enrolment in rural schools.
Mr Chiyenga says that programs such as school feeding increases the enrolment and reduces school dropouts.
He says that from the time the feeding program stopped, more pupils stopped going to school.
Mr Chiyenga has appealed to the government to continue with the feeding program because it keeps pupils active in schools.
He also bemoaned the system of some parents who disturb their children by sending them to herd cattle instead of sending them to school.
Mr Chiyenga noted that some parents in rural areas do not value education but wealth of cattle, a situation which has resulted in high illiteracy levels.
He was speaking in an interview with Breeze News.
