Government asked to resume works Chisengu-Mwanya – Nabwalya road

Government has been urged to resume works on the Chisengu-Mwanya – Nabwalya road in Eastern Province.

Chibande Ward Councilor, Jumbe Sakala told Breeze News that works on the road have stalled since last year.

Mr. Sakala says the road once completed will link Mambwe and Lundazi districts to Central Province.

He says the road will also shorten the route to Kamoto hospital in Mambwe district, which is the closest hospital to Chibande ward.

Mr. Sakala has also appealed to mobile communication providers to enhance network connection in the area because people  have to walk about 8 kilometers to go and make calls in areas where the networks is good.

And when contacted, Eastern Province Permanent Secretary Chanda Kasolo says that all road projects that have stalled will resume in three months’ time.

Mr. Kasolo explained that some contractors were reluctant to carry out the works because they were not too sure about what would happen after the August 11 general elections.

He stated that government is currently trying to put its house in order to start sourcing for funds to continue with its developmental projects.
