Stakeholders have been asked to work hand in hand with the government to bring about development in the country.
Eastern Province Permanent Secretary, Bert Mushala says that the government strived last year to build the economy through job creation and improving the working culture.
He says on behalf of the government he pays tribute to the workers who have contributed immensely towards achieving the development.
The permanent Secretary says that the government wants to empower the youths especially girl children by creating practical skills so that early marriages are reduced both in girls and boys.
He was speaking this morning during Labour Day celebrations being held under the theme “Transforming the Economy through Job Creation, Labour Law Reforms, Better Conditions of Service and Improved working culture”.
Meanwhile the Zambia Federation of Employees ZFE says that there should be uniformity in the labour laws between private and public sector workers.
ZFE Representative, Wamui Changani also says that the high levels of payments for redundancy and severance make it difficult for employers to employ workers on pensionable contracts, thus forcing them to employ workers on casual contracts.
Mr. Changani further encouraged trade unions to embark on membership recruitment in order to increase the number of unionised workers in the country for them to enjoy better conditions of services.
Government calls for partnership with stakeholders to bring development in the country.
