Government has been challenged to clearly come out over its decision to reduce allocations of subsidized inputs to maize farmers.
Movement for Multi-Party Democracy MMD Provincial Chairperson, Jacob Mwanza has observed that lack of information on the reduced inputs is causing confusion among farmers.
Speaking to Breeze News, Mr. Mwanza also noted that it is disheartening to see farmers complaining almost every day on the decision by government to reduce the inputs.
He says that government needs to take farmers seriously because they play an important role in contributing to the country’s food basket.
Meanwhile Mr. Mwanza says that government should settle the bill owed to farmers who sold maize to FRA, the Food Reserve Agency.
He says that government’s promise that it will settle the 300 million Kwacha within two weeks should be fulfilled so that farmers can start preparing for the next farming season.
